This Saturday we woke up amidst a beautiful mountain panorama.
In Estes Park, we went on a horseback riding tour into the mountains. Just like real cowboys & girls.
When we wanted to continue driving, suddenly there were deer on the road. So we stopped and there was a whole herd in the gardens of the residents!
Back on the road, we passed through the two gambling cities of Black Hawk and Central City. There, nearby, everyone got a hot dog. Mine was made of buffalo meat. It was delicious.
In Idaho Springs, we visited another Visitor Center where we learned about a nearby gold mine that we could visit. So we went there.
It was really cool. The guide was a real character. First, we saw how to wash gold from the dirt. In between, we could also feed some chipmunks. Then we went into the mine. We were the last visitors and had a private tour. The doors of the mine were closed behind us, and we stood in the pitch-black tunnel. We were shown a gold vein and then an even bigger one, a so-called mother lode. Suddenly, someone in a Halloween mask appeared in the dark corridor and startled us a little. Then we went back outside. When we told our guide about our planned wedding, he said he had something for us. He came back with a stone from the mother lode. A piece of a real gold vein! With real gold inside!
On the way to our overnight accommodation in Glenwood Springs, we passed a burning truck. Its brakes had apparently overheated. The driver calmly set up warning cones. The fire department was already coming towards us on the opposite lane. It was pretty exciting, and it seemed that fortunately, everyone was safe.
As mentioned before, we spent the night in Glenwood Springs.
