San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the USA and the second largest in Texas after Houston. The city is influenced by Spanish, Mexican, Anglo-American, and German influences.
Here stands the Alamo Fort and you can walk along the famous River Walk under trees along the Antonio River.
Since we were there in winter, it was less spectacular as the trees had no leaves.
But we visited the Alamo, which was built in 1718 as a mission station by the Franciscans.
The city was initially part of the Spanish colonial empire and became part of independent Mexico in 1821. In 1835, San Antonio was captured by Texan troops in the uprising against the Mexican regime.
We were at the KOA campground in San Antonio and then took the bus into the city.
When we continued our journey the next day, we passed through a town called Schulenburg, where there was a German Catholic church that we visited. It was very colorful with a red carpet and great stained glass windows.
