We land in Rønne. A typical cruise ship port... in an industrial area... not very idyllic, but typical...
After breakfast, a shuttle takes us from the quay to the center of the village.
Before we set off, there was a warm welcome. A small “pensioners’ band” played a few songs from the “Bornholm Island Playlist” that – we think – nobody knew. We assume and hope that they were some kind of folk songs…
Right next to the quay was a construction site for wind turbines. As the bus driver in the shuttle told us, the wind turbines for a German wind farm in the Baltic Sea are being assembled here. Several dozen wind turbine blades were stored next to the columns.
The route to the village center is not long, but the roads are a bit winding and before you get lost in the industrial harbor ... better safe than sorry!
With around 14,000 inhabitants, Rønne is the largest town on Bornholm. Small houses, slightly tilted by the constant wind, stand along the roadsides. Painted in bright colours with lots of colourful hollyhocks (I think that's what the flowers are called), the view is quite beautiful and we take a few pictures.
Our search for the magnets that we have become obligatory for is becoming extremely difficult. There are plenty of hair salons, it feels like at least 1.5 salons per inhabitant (the locals always have a perfect haircut, no matter how windy it is...) but no souvenir shop!? Eventually we found a small shop that didn't look like one but had a small handful of magnets on offer. The selection was therefore made quite quickly due to the lack of offers...
We then made our way back to the ship on foot. It was impossible to miss our ship.
Oh yes, and then it was time for coffee again … 😊
