Day 29 Middle-earth

Ebifulumiziddwa: 07.12.2019

The morning was spent on a tour of some original filming locations of the Lord of the Rings movies.

It was fascinating how inconspicuous these places are. The scenes were explained very well. In the photos, you can see the actual location next to the film scene. The Pillars of the Kings are particularly dramatically different, the computer animation team did an amazing job. The background information was also interesting:

The actors were usually not the ones riding in the riding scenes, they were doubled. Also, scenes that take place in the river were not filmed in the cold original water but in a warm pool in Wellington. We also learned a lot about the insane effort that goes into making the films, for example, for a two-minute scene of an orc attack, 200 people were busy for several days.

In the afternoon, we visited the old gold mining town of Arrowtown, it looks like an old western town. We took a little detour to Coronet Peak, where you have a great view, unfortunately, the weather was once again not very photogenic. It's a ski resort in the winter. Then, we went to the historic Kawarau Bridge, where bungee jumping was born and is still practiced today (but not by me).

In the evening, we were treated to a fantastic rainbow.
