Day 9 - Wednesday

Ebifulumiziddwa: 27.09.2018

Today in Krakow, summer has arrived:

So it's the perfect day to visit Poland's largest church - from the inside.

First, we'll go up or down the Vistula River, I don't know...

..but of course with a padded big toe (orange arrow) - you know:

After the bend in the Vistula, turn right and go straight through Nowy Świat (you know it from yesterday) until it turns green...

Cracovia 1906

But first, we pass the Cracovia stadium, the oldest Polish football club. But there's a gate half open...

..and curious as I am, I go through the open iron gate

..first up the stairs

..this is definitely a fan area, I would say.

After a short analysis, the main enemies have already been identified:

But surprisingly, Nowa Huta doesn't come off well either:

I assume Nowa Huta also has a football team, and that's definitely not okay..

Out of nowhere, a smoking Cracovian suddenly appears in front of me, quickly get out of here before the iron gate closes..

Błonia-Meadows

Past the Cracovia legend Józef Kałuża (orange arrow) finally to the Błonia meadow:

Nothing to see except grass, and the last flower bed is being flattened before my eyes:

The rock there could provide information:

Ty jesteś Skałą - You are the Rock

You can already guess it. This is where JP II held masses in the 70s and 80s, attended by up to 3 million people. So 3 million people on this meadow. I'm trying to imagine that right now.

The Błonia meadow, a huge church, the largest in Poland. And I have to walk around here, there's no use complaining, just walking..

Halfway there. From now on it's the way back, past the rusty clubhouse of Cracovia

Finally, I can be seen again. Wave, wave and greetings to everyone.

Rynek

The sun is shining, so today I'm heading to the heart of Krakow, to Rynek.

Rynek is an uncomfortable place. There's no little wall, no bench, no deck chair, no old barrel or old car tire to sit on..

Half of the square is permanently covered...

..and that's even when it's not raining! And if you do sit under it, it has the charm of a restaurant at Lake Bigge..

I don't need that. That's why I'm heading underground now..

Podziemia Rynku - Rynek Underground

At the east side of the Cloth Hall, you descend, pass through a foggy veil..

..and you can't help but be amazed. You find yourself in medieval Krakow..

..on streets

..in fires

..in cemeteries

..in 3D presentations

..in, I don't know, but it looks good.

And all this on over 6000 sqm..

The authentic medieval Krakow under Rynek. Truly unique. There's no other way to describe it.

Conclusion:

Rynek. Better from below than from above - at least today.

Image of the day
