'Why not?'

Ebifulumiziddwa: 13.08.2018

Last night at the hostel we met a very nice 35-year-old leather jacket designer from Bogota, Alison. We agreed to meet with her the next day to go to the nearby (not so cool) beach and learn some Spanish. Said and done: with two Mexican girls who were in Alison's room, the five of us squeezed into a mini taxi and went to the beach. Before the shop where we bought beer, Felipe (a very cool guy from Cuba) approached us, trying to sell us a ride to a nearby island. We weren't sure what was going to happen, but Alison took us to another store where we bought more beer and a cooler box, and in a snap, we were on a small motorboat headed towards Isla de whatever de Bomba ('Why not?'). Surrounded by loud reggaeton music and Colombian families, we spent the day at the beach, drinking beer and eating fish (except for Cony.. who will probably be eating fried bananas, rice, and beans for the next four weeks ('vegetarian food')). At the beach, one of the Mexican girls was approached by an older, wealthy guy who promptly invited her to stay with him in his casa. Her argument that she had to fly out tomorrow seemed to not bother him much. He offered to buy new plane tickets and arrange accommodation for both Mexican girls and Alison. This was followed by heated discussions about accepting or declining this offer. The conclusion was, as often happens in Colombia: 'Why not, if you feel it, you have to do it.' In the end, the Mexican girl decided she no longer wanted to see the guy (in the opinion of all of us, a rather sensible decision), but unfortunately, this also means that Alison is now sitting on the plane heading home and our planned rooftop bar evening is cancelled. But that's also no problemo for us because the language school starts early tomorrow morning. Hablar espagnol si si.
