This time the post is a bit late. We have both been working hard for the past two weeks and glad to go to bed in the evening.
Last weekend on July 1st was Territory Day. It celebrated the halfway point of the year. This holiday only exists in the Northern Territory. On this day, it is legal (like New Year's Eve) to buy and use fireworks. Here in the Territory is the last place in Australia where this is possible. There is no fireworks for private individuals anywhere else.
To celebrate the day, the government sponsored a big party at Mindil Beach, including a market. The bus ride to the beach was free. There was live music by well-known musicians all afternoon/evening. Just before sunset, there was an air show and the atmosphere was great. When it got dark, there was a breathtaking fireworks display for 30 minutes, which was ignited from ships at sea.
We spent the party with a dear friend and his acquaintances. Therefore, we had the opportunity to enjoy the fireworks with champagne. ;)
The Northern Territory is 4 times the size of Germany and has 250,000 inhabitants, three quarters of whom live in Darwin. The rest live in the 'bush'.
It is certain for us that we want to celebrate this day here again. That was the most beautiful fireworks we have ever seen. One of the most beautiful days in Australia. We have grown to love the Territory and its residents. 💞💞💞
