Day 8: Burg (Fehmarn) - Præstø (DK), 82 km

Ebifulumiziddwa: 27.05.2022

Early in the day, I set off from Fehmarn. There is a gusty wind from the west predicted and rain from 11 am. I would have liked to stay longer. My host Steffi is a wonderful entertainer and we stayed up late the night before. But it doesn't help.

Before the ferry, I meet Samuel, a student from Emden. Today he plans a 250 km tour to the island of Funen. Fortunately, I don't have that much ahead of me. I'll stop at 82 km in Præstø according to the navigation. That's more than enough considering the weather. But one thing at a time.

Steffi had given me a tip to take a look at the construction site for the new tunnel on the starboard side.

The crossing is calm and after 45 minutes we reach the sunny port of Rødby.

Samuel and I decide to ride together until the island of Zealand. Samuel would be considerably faster if he were riding alone, but we talk a lot about bikes and crazy tours. He is preparing for the Three Peaks Bike Race from Vienna to Nice. There are participants who ride the race in four days with an average of 470 km per day!

Promptly at 11 am, according to the weather app, it starts to cloud over and the wind picks up significantly. It finally starts raining in Maribo on the island of Lolland.

We continue on to the island of Falster and then to the island of Zealand. It rains heavily here again and it is very windy. Our paths separate on the island of Zealand. Samuel goes to the island of Funen, I go to Præstø. But before that, I get a flat tire, which costs me some more time.

Finally, at 4 pm, I arrive at my host Merete's place. She lives in an old farmhouse and is an artist.

An eventful day comes to an end. Let's see what the weather will be like tomorrow.
