Let loose

Ebifulumiziddwa: 29.10.2018

Today we're taking over Melbourne. Let's start with a hearty leftovers breakfast, with everything the fridge has to offer.

After a good meal, we start around 2:00 pm. Off to the Free City Tram.

We want to visit the oldest train station from 1910. Then we stroll to the Oktoberfest, today is the last day. Have a drink and enjoy the sunset at the Eureka Tower. That's the plan and this time we actually did it.

We saw the train station, it's only worth seeing from the outside,

right across from there we also visited St. Paul's Cathedral.

We also witnessed a procession of Muslims or Indians.

We couldn't find out what it was, but it was a bit unsettling to watch. You never know in these times.

We continue along the river.

It's really beautiful here. The rich and famous gather in the numerous restaurants on the

river promenade for a glass of champagne and a light lunch. We meet the criteria, but unfortunately we don't have time because we want to go to the Oktoberfest. Past the exhibition halls, where the Australian Games Convention 2018 is taking place this weekend.

It's amazing how some people here are dressed.

And finally the "Munich Brauhaus".

A nice Bavarian atmosphere welcomes us.

But other than the beer, there's hardly any Bavarian/German here. Starting with the waitstaff, who sometimes wore dirndls, sometimes wore lederhosen, sometimes wore jeans and t-shirts, none of them felt responsible for taking an order or clearing tables. After ordering at the bar and waiting 20 minutes (at the bar) we finally had the beer in our hands.

Doing business like that can be done differently. The beer tasted good and made the music (not brass music) more bearable. Maybe I'm too picky or intolerant, but if you want to sell German lifestyle, it has to be all or nothing. You're not just a little bit pregnant either.

Anyway, check.

Our last destination is the Eureka Tower.

In the 88th floor you have a great view of Melbourne.

The Eureka Tower, built from 2001-2006 with a total height of 297.3 m, 91 floors and 13 elevators (of which only 2 were in operation), is currently the tallest building in Melbourne and the second tallest in Australia. The highlight is "The Edge", a cube made of milky glass that extends from the facade and becomes transparent.

An incredible moment. You're up there and suddenly there's nothing below you. You know what's coming and still get scared.

The view with the sunset also invites you to linger and dream.

I also find cities fascinating at night. The many lights and colors... I could sit and watch for hours.

If it weren't for the hunger and especially the thirst. And 2 hours is enough.

Now we just have to settle the recurring question: what do we eat? Today something light (it's already late)? Jo Sushi from the conveyor belt. Delicious, and at La La Land, a quaint pub with cozy leather armchairs, we'll have a final beer.
