To-do list

Published: 26.06.2018

Again and again, I plan a hundred thousand things that I absolutely have to do on my trips. So that I don't forget them all, I want to write them down today to see at the end of my journey what I have accomplished.

 Breizh Cola

Yes, Brittany has its own cola and I'm very curious how it will taste. (by the way: Breizh is Breton and means Brittany)

 Cidre

Since the weather in Brittany is very unsuitable for wine growing, I decided to try cider, a carbonated apple juice drink with alcohol content, so to speak, apple wine. With cider, you can choose between a sweet ("doux") and a tart ("brut") variation.

 Crêpes & Galettes

These are probably the most famous Breton specialties that I am looking forward to the most. Honestly, I have only tried crêpes in various variations and am very curious to see how the savory galettes will taste.

 Far Breton

This is a Breton pancake that can be eaten cold as a dessert but also as a warm lunch.

 Gâteau Breton

This is a type of sand cake, although I'm not a fan of such types of cakes.

 Caramel au beurre salé

Salted butter caramel - Mhmmmm.... :-)

 Kouign Amann

I'm almost certain that this cake made of puff pastry, which is enveloped in caramel, will be my favorite.

 Overcoming myself to taste seafood

Since I am generally very picky about food and don't eat many dishes, this will probably be the most difficult task.

So as you can see, I might gain a few pounds.

-Experience reports and photos will follow ;-)

 Dinan

 Dinard

 Mont Saint Michel

 Saint-Malo

 Combourg

 Dol de Bretagne

 Rennes

................

There are certainly many cities and sights, but I don't want to commit to anything yet, as my host family will definitely have many interesting places and useful tips for me.

Actually, I would like to take all my books with me and read them, but then my suitcase would probably weigh too much. I have now decided on 3 books that I absolutely must read, but there will definitely be more in my suitcase.

Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas:

When high school graduate Claire returns from vacation, her brother Loïc is no longer there - after an argument with their father, it seems. She sets out to search for her brother, from whom she has received a postcard from Normandy, and gradually she uncovers the secret surrounding his disappearance.

 L’Échappée belle:

Instead of attending a boring family wedding, the siblings Garance, Lola, and Simon spontaneously visit their youngest brother, who works as a tour guide in a nearby castle. Far from family problems, worries, and formalities, the four hang out reminiscing, fool around, and return a little more grown up to their everyday lives after this gifted day (so the German title).

 La tête en friche:

Two very different people become friends: the narrator Germain Chazes, in his mid-40s, can hardly read or write, and the delicate and cultivated 86-year-old Margueritte Escoffier. This friendship does not remain without consequences ...

 French films and series

The practical thing about Netflix series and movies is that you can watch them in many languages.

Chesapeake Shores: Abby returns from New York to her hometown of Chesapeake Shores, which is connected to her first love Trace. She is a single mother and a successful businesswoman who decides to simply stay with her family during her visit to her hometown. There, she can expect many new adventures and tasks.....

In addition to this series, I also want to watch the following movies: Les Potes, LOL, Je ne suis pas un homme facile, Un+Une

 Vocabulary and grammar

Our French professor recommended us last semester THE best grammar book ever: Grammatik des heutigen Französisch von Klein Kleineidam. Since I didn't have time to take a closer look at the book this semester, I have decided to refresh certain grammar chapters this summer.

In my studies, I learn a lot of technical vocabulary and I think that my vocabulary regarding household, garden, etc. is far too short. That's why I packed the "Vocabulaire progressif du français" in my suitcase, which contains a lot of everyday vocabulary. Personally, I find this book very nicely designed, as you have to find the German translation based on pictures, and I learn vocabulary much easier when I have to look it up. At the end of each chapter, you will find additional exercises to consolidate what you have learned.

 Experience the National Holiday

I'm soooo excited - on July 14th, the French celebrate their National Holiday. During my school days, I heard again and again that there are many street festivals in France where people dance and celebrate, and I would think it would be very cool if I could be there this year.

So as you can see, I have a lot planned :-D
