Sequoia & first time at Denny's♥️

Weşandin: 11.08.2017

Haha, now I realize how the country is slowly rubbing off on me because I wanted to continue writing in English right after the title. I hope I won't have a 'like-language error' like the au pair girl from Düsseldorf that I met in San Francisco when I return - she constantly made sentences like 'That's like a vegetable market.' (Rolling eyes) But no, that's definitely not gonna happen. (Just kidding😜)

Today we arrived at Sequoia National Park, the drive took about 4 hours with a shopping stop, this time at Save Mart. Even after almost 4 weeks (boo already so much time has passed 😞), I still love supermarkets. And it doesn't matter if they are big or small - we are often staying in 'small towns' where there is practically nothing, maybe a restaurant, a gas station with a minimart... (or maybe not - today we drove about 10 minutes for dinner, but more on that later.) I am SO glad that I am no longer picky about food, I can find something everywhere. In the past, I would rather not eat if the supermarket or menu only had junk food to offer. Now I look at the situation and choose something from the available options. I have noticed that some people have a hard time when traveling if they have a fixed idea of what they want in a restaurant or supermarket, like: 'I want something healthy.', 'I want fruit.' And then they are disappointed and condemn the whole country, how unhealthy everyone is here, if there are only donuts to buy. You just have to look at it more relaxed, be flexible, or be willing to drive for up to half an hour if you insist on having a fresh cucumber. In the supermarket, it is quite possible to eat healthily, so I would like to make a plea for America. You can really enjoy yourself here, but you can also get your portion of vegetables. That's exactly what I stocked up on today because we had lunch in the park.

After that, we took long walks in the forest and were amazed again and again by these incredibly large trees in the park. In the end, we climbed a high rock (booty workout 😂). So today we were active again 😊
Dave, the driver, accompanied us all day - yesterday he gave us hiking tips and then rested - so it was a really long day for him, driving from 7:30 to about 1 p.m., then hiking, then driving again for 1.5 hours, and then he chauffeured us to a diner around 8 p.m. because apparently there was no restaurant in the town. I was really excited because I had been wanting to go to Denny's Diner for a long time, a 24-hour breakfast restaurant that also serves dinner. I had a typical American deception package like: It looks healthy until you look at the calories: chicken-vegetable-potatoes-jalapeños and - tadaaa - a ton of cheese = 1020 kcal 😊 But it was soo good! I was completely thrilled 😁😁 (Denny's will definitely be visited again on future road trips 😊😊)

Because of my frequent (food & landscape) moments of happiness on the trip ('Oooh I love it here!', 'It's delicious!'), the group members are now joking that I should catch an American if I like it so much here, wedding in Las Vegas, etc. 😂😂😂 No thanks, not like that 😜 Don't worry folks, I'll be (too) soon back home! 😁🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸 But first, tomorrow we're off to Death Valley, it's gonna be hot ☀️☀️🔥🔥
