Tongariro Alpine Crossing

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing was another opportunity to lace up our hiking boots before sending them back in Asia.

It is New Zealand's most popular day hike, partly because it takes you through the Mount Doom from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Therefore, it also resembles a huge migration. But the scenery is unique, you hike on and next to large craters of inactive volcanoes and see smoke plumes rising everywhere that smell of sulfur. It was completely different from the Copland Track we did, where we mostly hiked through the rainforest.
