2022 - August - Straat - Street Art Museum

If for you, visiting museums means looking at glass display cases, that will change as soon as you visit the Street Art Museum Straat. Everything here is big and colourful and always changing in some way.

However, a question arises: does street art belong in a museum? The name itself suggests that it is something for the outdoors and should decorate the exterior wall of a building.

There are several arguments in favor of a museum: 1. It is legal. 2. What hangs and stands here is truly artistic. 3. It is generally not overwritten by other 'artists' and 4. The admission fees provide an income for the often underpaid artists.

But of course, the exhibits are still created by real street artists. Often they are political works.

I also found it interesting to watch two artists at work. And what I wouldn't have expected was that they work with brushes instead of spray cans.

Nevertheless, the souvenir shop at the end of the exhibition doesn't miss the chance to sell spray cans and other equipment like bags and backpacks.

Outside, you can try it out right away. Because the area consists of old workshops and is scattered with better and (supposedly) worse street art.
