#69 The City in the Sea

Weşandin: 16.02.2022

February 8, 2022: Cádiz

F. Cádiz is an old port city located on a peninsula. Since the city is almost entirely surrounded by water, there are a lot of large bridges that bring daily traffic in and out of the city. I was particularly impressed by the Puente de la Constitución de 1812. With its 3 km length, it has the third largest span of all cable-stayed bridges in Europe.

Cádiz became famous and wealthy in the 16th century when the city became part of the Spanish trade monopoly with the "New World". Over 100 watchtowers were built to defend against dangers from the sea, some of which can still be seen today. There is also a lot to see in the old town of Cádiz. Cathedrals, churches, fortifications, narrow streets, and even a poorly preserved Roman theater can be discovered. But most tourists come here because of the super beautiful white sandy beaches. We walked through the narrow streets of Cádiz all day, absorbed the city's atmosphere, and went to the beach. Simply a beautiful city with very good public transportation. Once again, we parked our van outside the city and took the bus to the center. It doesn't work in every Spanish city, but I can recommend it to everyone in Cádiz.
