Here our journey ended in the sailboat from Panama. Cartagena is a city in the Colombian Caribbean, located in the northern part of the country. The main attraction is the colorful and picturesque old town, which is still completely surrounded by the old city wall. There's not much to tell... we let all the impressions of the lively and loud city affect us, we visit a good vegetarian restaurant multiple times, drink rum, and always look for the nearest air conditioning since it's really hot 😉 tempting salsa music resonates throughout the city and makes us feel like dancing (well, I'm itching to dance, David less so 😆), but in the evenings we're completely exhausted from the heat and can't make it out the door 😩
Unfortunately, Bina leaves us in Cartagena and flies back to Germany 🙁 so we are alone again and on our own. Although there is a lot to discover in the Colombian Caribbean and we originally wanted to go diving here, we have decided to turn away from the sea and move inland towards Medellin for now! Even though it sounds strange, we've had enough of the Caribbean, the heat, and all the beaches 😋
Cartagena is where our sailing trip and our experience through the Caribbean came to an end. Initially, we had talked about doing some diving in northern Colombia, but we are already somewhat saturated with beaches, sun, and heat, even if it sounds strange. We are really looking forward to venturing into the interior of the country and discovering its valleys and mountains to enjoy a different landscape and climate.
In Cartagena we stay and move around its old town, a beautiful and lively neighborhood. It is full of beautiful colonial houses with very nice courtyards, and it is still completely walled since the Spaniards decided it was a good idea to defend themselves against pirates. Nowadays, in my opinion, it has a big disadvantage, which is that it prevents even a little breeze from the sea from entering this hot city (or neighborhood). So we constantly look for places with air conditioning to rest for a while.
We have also said goodbye to Bina, who is returning to Germany, and we are alone again in our little adventure. Our next destination will be Medellin, where we will spend a few days to enjoy its perpetual spring ;)
