“Your Luck is Fuck”

Weşandin: 27.06.2018

Tuesday was all about the “Golden Circle”. Starting from Reykjavik, you can explore three of Iceland's most famous attractions in one day: Þingvellir National Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss.

Þingvellir National Park is geographically interesting as it sits on the tectonic plates of Eurasia and America. The drifting apart of these two plates is visible through impressive rock fissures and cracks. One example is the popular Silfra fissure, loved by divers and snorkelers. The national park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.

We then continued to the great “Geysir”, which has given its name to all geysers worldwide. Unfortunately, it rarely erupts now, so we focused on the smaller version (Strokkur). It erupts regularly every 10 minutes, and we were able to witness it twice.

The final stop was the Gullfoss waterfall, which consists of two stages: one 11 meters high and the other 21 meters high. The sight was breathtaking, especially with the dense spray.

Since the weather wasn't the best, we went to a relatively unknown hot pot for a crowning finale, where Silke and Yvonne could warm up (almost) privately.

In a race against time, we searched for a suitable place to watch the Iceland vs Croatia game. After unsuccessfully visiting 3 locations, we received a tip: the clubhouse of a golf club in the middle of nowhere. The game had already started when we entered the well-filled room with a large screen. The crowd of locals warmly welcomed us. We were placed in the front row and could cheer along with them. The atmosphere was fantastic, explosive, and very contagious, so we soon felt very comfortable and well taken care of. The defeat of the fighting Vikings was even more disappointing for us. After the game, the room quickly emptied, leaving about 15 people. We ordered burgers while waiting for our food. While waiting, we were visited by a young Icelander with beautiful blue eyes. We talked about the game and the currently uncharacteristically cold and rainy weather. This conversation led to the title of today's blog entry.

Back in Reykjavik, we had a loser's beer and went to bed listening to bird songs. Yes, it not only looks like broad daylight when falling asleep but also sounds like it ;)

We spent our last day in Reykjavik on an extensive shopping tour. We watched the extremely sad game of our national team in a pub where the big flatscreen was specially turned on for us. Not even the German-speaking waiter could console us about the football disaster. And so, the day ends again with a loser's beer. Our luck is really fuck!!
