Masaya Volcano National Park and the nightlife in Granada

Weşandin: 19.11.2017

Half an hour away from Granada there is another active volcano. It doesn't just smoke from time to time, no, you can even watch the lava boiling. Of course, we didn't want to miss that. We booked a night tour especially because the view should be even better here.

After an hour in traffic, we arrived at the top at around seven o'clock. The atmosphere was eerie. You expect the lava to rise higher and the volcano to erupt at any moment. For us safety-conscious Europeans, it is also unthinkable that the only barrier is a rather crumbling 40 cm high wall. With so many tourists, you really had to be careful not to accidentally push someone and send them to certain death. After not even 15 minutes, all tourists were crowded back into their buses and the visit was over.

Back at the hostel, two nice Irish and a German saw our slight disappointment and invited us for a drink. So we finally got the chance to drink THE national drink here: Flor de Cana. A rum that almost has a monopoly here. Since Granada is a rather safe city, we went out and found a cool club. It was full of locals and they were dancing to hot beats. As is often the case in Nicaragua, the power eventually went out. But that didn't dampen the mood and everyone moved on to the next bar. Although Granada is a big city, you can count the number of clubs and discos on one hand. Many simply can't afford it.
