From the South Island to the Marlborough Sound, I had eaten the famous green mussels in Havelock. Here in Havelock (North), fish dishes are not common, even though it is by the sea.
In Hasting, I stayed with Bronwyn for 2 days. She works as a tour guide and was able to provide me with valuable tips for restaurants, viewpoints, wineries, beaches, and much more. One tip was the Off The Track Restaurant (https://goo.gl/maps/wEaVwUKaXD52).
Sunday evening and restaurants, it's always tricky! Most of them unfortunately closed and the few that are open are filled with locals, tourists, and probably all the restaurant staff who have Sundays off, and crowded at times.
Same goes for Off The Track. But here, it was mainly families with children, as the restaurant has a huge playground.
Fortunately, I managed to get a seat near the window. After looking at the menu, I decided to go for lamb shank with truffled mashed potatoes and red wine sauce. The shank was absolutely delicious :-)
