Crete Day 13: May 16th - Agios Nikolaos

Weşandin: 22.03.2018

Today it was time to say goodbye to the beautiful Xerokampos! We really enjoyed our time here, so saying goodbye was particularly difficult. But with our new destination in sight, we regained our spirits :D Off we went to Agios Nikolaos!

Saint Nicholas

Once we arrived, we started our usual search for a hotel and found the lovely 'Hotel Creta'. This would be our last accommodation, as we would be heading back home in three days. How quickly time flies! But let's focus on the present for now. The room was great again, with a fantastic view! We explored the city, which was cozy and beautiful. The must-see in Agios Nikolaos is the freshwater lake located there. Despite having direct access to the sea, it is freshwater. From above, you have a wonderful view of the lake and the city. We had lunch up there, with a view overlooking the lake. The food was also very good! After exploring the city and the surrounding beaches, we dragged ourselves back to the hotel. We were just exhausted and needed a nap.

In the evening, we managed to rally and went out to find something to eat. We found a restaurant not far from the hotel that offered a variety of mezedes (the Cretan version of tapas). All of them were delicious! We enjoyed wine leaves, roasted pork, mushrooms, saganaki (fried cheese!), and many other little treats. With our bellies full, we found a bar to relax and have a few drinks. However, the drinks were quite expensive there, so we soon headed back.

We decided to wait and see what the next day would bring. The forecast wasn't very good, so we wanted to base our plans on the weather.
