Sacred Family

Weşandin: 23.08.2023

Hello dear people,

After a few days of blog break due to problems on the website, I'm giving you the latest updates on Barcelona and my journey south.

I'm currently in Denia with some super dear friends and enjoying the time with the crazy people.

In any case, I'll give you an update on the last few days in Barcelona. In addition, this post is dedicated to the world-famous Sagrada Familia. Since I was here both during the bike tour and an extra tour, I spent a total of at least 4-5 hours here.

First I will show you a few pictures of the facades and then of the interior:

Sagrada Família
still under construction

Really good to see from the outside that this work of art is still under construction.

A tortoise on the land side and a sea turtle on the sea side form the basis for the pillars of the current entrance hall. A nice comparison, since turtles are considered long-lived, strong, calm, balanced and make an excellent foundation for the pillars of the entrance.

The Nativity facade consists of 3 "caves" dedicated to Mary, Jesus and Joseph, and the entire facade depicts various elements from the life of Jesus. The facade is synonymous with life and nature.

In complete contrast and also on the other side of the building, the Passion facade is shown, which is supposed to represent the suffering and death of Jesus super straight and simple.

In addition to the already impressive facade, there is an interior that blew my mind with its simplicity and colors.

Window

The two sides of the church are illuminated through the windows depending on the time of day and it is a real spectacle of colour.

The pillars and ceiling are reminiscent of a forest full of trees and light streaming through the ceiling.

There are also a lot of small details inspired by nature and its creatures.

The work of art is still under construction and although the main artist and architect Antonio Gaudi has been dead for several years. But he left drawings for everything and said that the Sagrada Familia is a project of several generations.

However, Gaudi also designed and built other buildings in Valencia, which are still among the main attractions in Valencia.

fun

All in all, a very nice cultural and artistic experience that should not be missed when visiting Valencia.

And with that I also mentally say goodbye to Barcelona and thank you for the beautiful 3 days.

Until then,
Your Britta
