To get straight to the point, personally, I liked Moscow better than St. Petersburg. Everything seemed a bit more orderly, tidier, and more accessible than before.
Even the hostel was two classes better in this case. In general, it's a pity that hardly anyone speaks English in Russia, so there was no real conversation due to the exclusively Russian guests in both of my hostels.
If it's enough for you to see all the buildings and structures you know from Moscow from the outside and not to inspect the 859th chapel from the inside, you can get by with very little money. Sightseeing is virtually for free.
Ultimately, the most beautiful thing about Moscow was the sight of the Basilus Cathedral and Red Square at night.
In conclusion: If Moscow weren't so far away, it would definitely have the potential to be a weekend city trip, similar to Prague, Barcelona, etc. It is also suitable as a stopover to the Middle Kingdom, but in my opinion, two days are completely sufficient.
