On the way to Albania, Tirana, a stop at Lake Ohrid is definitely recommended, offering the opportunity to get to know North Macedonia from a different perspective. The region around one of the oldest lakes in the world and the charming old town has become one of the most famous destinations in North Macedonia. The lake is estimated to be between 3-5 million years old and provides a home for many species of animals that do not exist anywhere else in the world. So once again, the aspect of education would be fulfilled. Knowledge.
Today, the old town attracts numerous guests who stroll along the inviting lakeside promenade and through the steep streets. The traditional town houses built into the slope and medieval churches are especially beautiful in combination with the crystal-clear Lake Ohrid and the wild, natural mountain panorama.
In addition to a few hotels, stylish souvenir and jewelry shops, there is also a nice selection of cafes and restaurants that are well-visited on a sunny Saturday. The town pleasantly surprised me and is really worth seeing.
On a nice parking lot right on the shore, you can reach the town in just a few minutes along the beautiful pedestrian path. Here I meet some other van and motorhome travelers again.
I definitely don't want to leave out the fact that there is a DM market here, as it made me feel close to home once again. Nothing creates a more familiar feeling of being at home than having a shelf full of organic spreads right in front of you.
