Hakuna matata! A life cheat code that Zanzibarians have figured out and embrace in their everyday soft life!

Driving down the streets, many signs and symbols remind me of my childhood. I grew up in a muslim neighborhood, and the sense of spirituality and community is very tight. It's ijumaa; the spirit is high and beautiful as everybody walks out of the mosque. Grey-bearded uncles riding their scooters, a group of young men lining up for roasted corn, colorful hijaabs all around, coconut being slaughtered and ubuyu sucked until the last bit, the sun is sharp and the wind is blowing, this is Zanzibar! Adhan and Quran chants on every corner, about a thousand cats meowing in their best possible voice, trying to mark the territories that the Arabic culture already has by its throat since decades ago. It's raining tourists, mostly elderly for some reason. At least each ten meters, you'll have a guy trying to sell you his drone business, tour guide or a boat ride, but in a very friendly way.

All these corridors nesting hidden gems, aromatic spices in every taste, urojo, my love. And I, ocean-gazing from the quiet patience of these walls that make up this rooftop, replaying stories floating between these beautifully carved wooden doors that look like frozen time,

History.
