The bus ride went surprisingly fast. Although it wasn't the most restful night, we were still able to rest well. We arrived in Sa Pa at 5:00 am. The cold was not entirely unexpected, but we didn't expect the temperature to be just above freezing. Fortunately, we were immediately picked up by a car and taken to our accommodation. In Sapa Soul, about 30 minutes outside of the city of Sa Pa, we were able to check into our room right away and warm up in the heated bed. Around 10 o'clock it got a bit warmer and we could go on a discovery tour, bundled up. From our accommodation we hiked to a small waterfall on the other side of the valley. A bit naive and always following our noses, we went over hill and dale. Most of the tourists we met were with a guide, but this fact didn't deter us Swiss hikers. After about 5 hours we were back at the accommodation and enjoyed the sunset with a beer and good Vietnamese cuisine. On the second day we rented a scooter or motorcycle. I was immediately enthusiastic about the vehicle and immediately inquired if I could also get such a 'machine' in Switzerland. Unfortunately, it's hopeless! A Honda Winner is only available in Asia. Anyway, we did a big tour that day. A total of about 150 km. Highlights were: the Heavens Gate, Lao Cai on the Chinese border and the way along the Ngoi Bo (river) back to the accommodation. We use the last day in Sa Pa to relax a bit and write these entries. In the evening we take a night bus back to Ha Long.
