23rd April - 24th April
What a day!
The ride along the Oregon coast continued just like the past few days: absolutely stunning views! Almost non-stop! It's simply incredibly beautiful to bike here!
Highly recommendable if someone is considering biking a route somewhere!
The landscape changes almost every hour. (After just a few kilometers it looks completely different). Beautiful cliffs, dreamy beaches, fairytale forests, then suddenly gigantic sand dunes among all the pine trees, and then steep cliffs to the sea again. So beautiful!
When we arrived at the campground, we followed the signs 'Biker/Hiker Campground' as usual - the campsites here are a bit cheaper for cyclists and hikers.. although the tent sites are also waaaaay at the other end! But well, at least we can save a few dollars!
Well, we started out for once early in the morning, so we arrived relatively soon at the campground at Cape Lookout. We had dinner as usual and enjoyed the amaaaaazing sunset! Then it got dark, and we went into the tent. We watched a movie on the laptop for once, when suddenly we heard something outside the tent. I wasn't quite sure if a bike fell over or what else could have been. There was no wind, and otherwise it was actually a completely quiet evening. Hm, ... We heard something rustling quite loudly, so we decided to see what was going on. Was it a bear? Something else?? (Of course I sent Markus out first... hehe.. )
Well, when we were outside, we suddenly saw this raccoon! He was just happily eating Mex's tortilla chips! Apparently he smelled that they were in my bike bag. So he knocked over my bike, opened the bag (it was only loosely rolled up) and grabbed the whole pack of tortilla chips.
The funny thing though was that the raccoon wasn't even shy! Oh no!!!! He came sooo close! Unbelievable!! Mexi almost wanted to keep him as a pet ;-)
Well, the raccoon wouldn't leave our side anymore. Once he discovered these chips, he kept climbing on our bikes and sniffing everything!
So we stuffed all the bags with food into a 'bear box', tied our bikes together so they can't fall over anymore, and then went back to bed.
The next morning we saw that the raccoon apparently came back and tried with all his strength to bite through our bike bags (they suddenly had lots of little holes!) Thank goodness without success - but well ;-)
