Day 16, from the fisherman's hut to the chapel

The night in the tent was fine, except for a dog barking nearby for a long time (about 2 hours)! Eventually, its throat must have started hurting and it finally stopped. In the morning, we had a good breakfast with sausages, eggs, and feta cheese. We paid a total of 20 € for everything (camping, dinner, 3 beers, cola, and breakfast). Our hostess arranged a transportation to the next village (15 km) which could only be reached by an asphalt road. Upon arrival, we paid 5 € for the transportation. We immediately faced a pass that we had to cross (about 500 hm). It was quite exhausting as it was also very hot (about 30°C) and a distance of 13 km. About 3 km before our destination for the day, two off-roaders with their SUVs came from above and gave us a lift to the next village. In the village, we searched for accommodation and dinner. We asked a woman about it, but she seemed overwhelmed by the situation. We walked back uphill for about 100 meters where we saw a couple and asked again for a bed and food. They now referred us to their neighbor, who invited us into his house. Communication was once again limited to sign language and 10 Croatian words. But after a short while, we had bean stew with pieces of meat and bread. After the meal, we decided to continue walking as we couldn't find a suitable spot for our tent. We walked for another hour until we saw a chapel next to the road and also a good place to set up the tent. We just managed to set up the tent before it got dark. This perfect spot came at exactly the right time, just like the day before! During the walk, we nourished ourselves with blackberries and cherries, just like the previous days. In the evening, we had nuts that we bought at the bazaar in Bitola.

(Willi) If you want to be really alone, you should travel to North Macedonia. The country is largely uninhabited. Officially, there are about 2 million residents, of which over 1 million live in Skopje and the larger cities, and more than 300,000 live abroad.
