Today we drove from CasaMaria to Sighetu Marmati. Along the way, we made a stop at the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta. We stayed overnight at a nice guesthouse on the national road.
The charm of this cemetery lies in the loving irony with which the deceased are remembered here. Unlike the usual eulogies, the weaknesses and vices of the deceased are not taboo. Some crosses literally show the flip side. The hardworking peasant woman in front is complemented on the back of the tombstone with the image of a woman who loves handsome men. And the diligent miller in front is seen sitting in the tavern on the back. In this way, the pictures bring village life back to life.
Here is a translation of a grave cross.
Many grave crosses as "moral apostles"!
Here lies young Mihai, son of Mihai Nacaz. One day, he was driving around in his new car again. However, the young man did not heed his parents' advice to drive carefully and not too fast, and so it happened as it had to happen. In 1993, his life came to an early end in a traffic accident near Comuna Sarasau. Mihai passed away at the age of 20 and now appeals to people to listen more to their parents.
