27.8.2018 Dresden-Zittau-Görlitz
We travel by regional train with our assembled (!) bikes to Zittau in the tri-border region of Germany/Czech Republic/Poland. In the GDR era, this was the "Valley of the Uninformed" because West German television could not be received.
The journey there is like traveling back in time, some witnesses are very weakened or no longer exist...
... where there must have been a train station before, there is now a vacant lot.
Zittau still shows today that it was very prosperous - the League of Six Towns made all contractual partners rich with salt and cloth.
The Zittau narrow-gauge steam railway welcomes us at Zittau station - there is excitement among the locomotive, the train driver, and the train passengers...
... quickly into the driver's cab - I won't miss this opportunity!
Zittau is still, or rather - again, a respectable city...
But now the bike tour really starts - off to Görlitz!
So these are the bike paths... but they also lead past half-thirsty corn...
... to Hirschfelde with its famous Sorbian half-timbered houses...
... to the young Neisse...... how is this possible, to look like this after just a few kilometers - the Aare River in Thun is still of the highest quality!... but the ride is beautiful!
Eine erste Pause haben wir uns beim Kloster Mariental redlich verdient ...... there is much interesting to discover...... after a stage of 40km with a tailwind, we reach Görlitz - remember: League of Six Towns... prosperity, or rather: wealth! Something like this...... towers with two clocks!
