On the 8th day of our trip, we drive from Kingman to the Grand Canyon National Park. The 3-hour drive from Kingman to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon offers no notable sights, but the landscape changes along the way from steppe with low bush vegetation to wooded areas, which is simply beautiful to see.
We can enter the National Park thanks to our Annual Park Pass, only by showing the pass and ID without paying any additional fees. We arrive at the Village and have a short lunch at the Central Market.
Then we go directly to the first viewpoint and let these images have an effect on us. Unfortunately, the camera can hardly capture these impressive images, but when you stand there, it is simply overwhelming how large everything is and how beautifully the nature has shaped these rocks.
After about an hour at the first viewpoint, we drive along the South Rim towards Route 64. Along the way, we pass several viewpoints, but we don't visit them all. We stop at the second-to-last viewpoint and the last viewpoint, called Desert View. Here too, we take a few very nice pictures.
Afterwards, we make the 2.5-hour journey to Page at Lake Powell. Along the way, we stop a couple of times to photograph the wonderful nature. When we arrive at Lake Powell, the receptionist tells us that we are an hour earlier than expected. On our way, we have crossed a latitude and gained an hour as a result.
We stay at the 'Lake Powell Resort &Marinas' for the next two nights in a room with a direct view of Lake Powell. Thanks to the extra hour, we even manage to have something to eat at the restaurant. Unfortunately, we are too tired to do much more, but we had a full day of activities and therefore go to sleep.
