On May 21st, after 5 months, the time had finally come. Our families came to visit us in Iceland for the last week. My mom, sister, and friend arrived at our accommodation around 12:30 PM by rental car from the airport. We were very excited. It was a great joy! :)
We packed all the luggage and drove together into the city, where we had something to eat. Tim then drove off and picked up his dad from the airport. After that, we went to Perlan. It's a large museum with an integrated ice cave. It was cool! It was very cold inside, but you could imagine what it looks like in a glacier cave. We had a 15-minute tour inside. It was -10 degrees Celsius. So we were also happy when we were back in the warmth. :D After that, we went to a small café. It had a small rooftop terrace. The weather was nice and the sun was shining. What a dream weather for a latte macchiato and a chocolate banana crepe on a colorful roof in Reykjavik! :)
Afterwards, the four of us drove to our first accommodation for the night. Tim and his dad and brother were already there. We checked in and then went to the nearby Bónus to buy some things. After that, we made ourselves a coffee and sat down in the garden and drank coffee. We were so early. :)
In the evening, we decided to go out for dinner. Fabi had a burger, Mama and Naima had a sausage platter with fries, and I had a camembert baked with honey. It was super delicious and of course actually priceless, but that's how it is. :D The first night was a bit unusual for the others because it was so bright all night. Well, we all fell asleep eventually.
On May 22nd, my day started with a microwave. Our neighbors in the room made something warm in the microwave and everything was very noisy. After that, I was already awake on time. We then had delicious cereal with Skyr (typical Icelandic yogurt) and fruit. Then we made sandwiches and packed everything into the car. Today our road trip started. The first stop was supposed to be Kirkjubaejarklaustur. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate on this day. It rained all day and no matter where we drove, it poured. In addition, there was an extremely strong wind. That was really unfortunate. They say there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing, but it's just not fun when you're completely soaked. Oh well, we gave it a try. First, we went to the Geysir area. It was awesome! There were hot springs everywhere and then there was the big Geysir Strokkur, which spouted into the air every few minutes. We watched the spectacle 3 times and enjoyed the delicious sulfur smell... not really. It was great to see how the blue water boiled and then went up to 30 meters into the air like through a fountain. After that, we drove to Gulfoss. The waterfall's water plunges 31 meters into the depths. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily now. We walked up to the waterfall and then my mom and I decided to get back in the car while Fabi and Naima climbed the stairs up. It was beautiful but unfortunately too rainy. We then drove to Skógafoss and then to the accommodation, which was much nicer than the first one! :)
