Yesterday morning we took the bus to Otavalo. It is about 2 hours north of Quito. Otavalo has been known for its artisan market for centuries. On weekends, there is also a huge livestock market. It must be chaotic then. We were there yesterday afternoon and it was practically empty.
The advantage was that you could look at all the stands in peace. The disadvantage: all the sellers immediately pounce on you. Finally a potential customer. However, the sellers were all very friendly, so it was still fun to stroll through the market. Here is a small selection of the offerings, in addition to the classic ponchos, scarves and blankets.
Milo's next carnival costume 😁
Rattles
I bought this among other things 😁
This morning we went to the Cuicocha volcano lake.
You can walk around the edge of the volcano crater once around the lake. But it takes 5 hours. So not an option for us. Therefore, we only took a short hike.
However, we kept this lone weaver busy for a while. 😁
A small selection
Then we briefly wandered through Otavalo
