Today we went on our 8th and final stage of the West Highland Way. It was also a very special tour. It's Steffen's birthday. We had to cover 25 km.
From Kinlochleven, we first went through the forest until we reached the open highlands. The ascent was tough again. Then we walked through a valley for a while, passing abandoned old farms. We were supposed to go through a forest area as well. Unfortunately, the entire forest was cleared, very unfortunate. On the descent to Fort William, we had a view of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain. Just before Fort William, the WHW follows a very busy road for about 3 km. Therefore, on recommendation, we decided to hike another parallel path through the forest.
After a good 6 hours, we were in the city center of Fort William, our destination. We thoroughly enjoyed the 8 stages with a total of 154 km. We hiked through a great and varied landscape. It was fantastic.
But the vacation is not over yet. Tomorrow, we will take the train to Edinburgh via Glasgow. We will stay there for another 3 nights.
