traveling as a group of three

Pubblicato: 18.09.2016

Hi guys,

from September 12th, 2016, we are traveling as a group of three as our uncle accompanies us through Brazil. Already at the airport, it became clear that it will be a super fun time. Full of motivation, we hiked in the afternoon to Morro da Urca, the first mountain on the way to Sugarloaf. However, to reach the top of Sugarloaf, we had to take the cable car. Once we arrived at the top, we enjoyed the magnificent view over Rio de Janeiro from different observation decks. Just a few facts about Rio de Janeiro:

- 11.9 million people, the second largest city in Brazil

- 6567 km2

- Location: South Atlantic; north of the Tropic of Capricorn

On the first evening, we visited the cultural center of Rio. There, both locals and tourists can watch various cultural music groups or dances for free. That evening, a band played the 'Coco' music style. Many young people came to practice their lively and animated dance. We were taught the dance style Coco. Whether we are good at this dance is another question, but it was a lot of fun.

The first attraction the next day were the colorful steps of Lapa 'Escadaria Selaron'. The artist Jorge Selaron adorned 200 steps with colorful tiles. After that, we hiked to Corcovado to enjoy the sunset at the Christ the Redeemer statue. The 38-meter-high stone and marble monument was built in 1922 as a symbol of Brazil's independence.

Since the Paralympics started on September 7th, we decided to watch one or two games. The first game, Goalball, took place in the Olympic Park. The next day, we went to the Engenhao Stadium to watch athletics. Of course, we also went swimming at the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Among other things, we visited Rocinha, the largest favela in South America, one day.

Best regards, Luci, Klara & Schore

Hi guys,

since September 12th, 2016, we were three people traveling together. Our uncle came to visit us in Brazil. We were pretty sure that the next three weeks will be great. In the afternoon, we hiked to the first mountain, called Morro da Urca, on the way to the Sugarloaf. But to reach the top of the Sugarloaf, we had to take the cable car. There, we enjoyed the beautiful view from different observation decks over Rio de Janeiro. By the way, some information about the city:

- 11.9 million people, the second largest city in Brazil

- 6567 km2

- Location: South Atlantic

On the first evening, we stayed at a cultural center. Different music bands play concerts every night, and they are all free. That night, the band played 'Coco,' which is the music style from the northern part of Brazil. All the people danced and had fun, and they also showed us the dance. I'm not sure if it looks good when we practice it, but we had a lot of fun.

The first sights the next day were the colorful steps of Lapa 'Escadaria Selaron.' The artist Jorge Selaron decorated 200 steps with different tiles. After that, we hiked to the Corcovado to enjoy the sunset behind the Christ the Redeemer statue. The 38-meter-high stone monument was built in 1922 to represent Brazil's independence.

We were lucky because the Paralympics started on September 7th, 2016, in Rio, so we decided to watch one or two games. The first game was Goalball in the Olympic Park. On the next day, we watched the athletics at the Engenhao Stadium. And of course, we went to the famous beaches Copacabana and Ipanema for swimming. We also visited one of the biggest favelas in South America called Rocinha.

Best regards, Luci, Klara & Schore
