Kalbarri National Park - Geraldton

Pubblicato: 21.10.2017

In the morning, we drove for about 1h on sandy tracks back to the paved road, where we inflated the tires for normal roads. Driving a 4wd is really fun. 😜

At the Billabong Roadhouse, we filled up the tank with the cheapest diesel (1.30 AUD per liter) and then headed towards Kalbarri. We had an engine failure on this route a few years ago. But this time, we made good progress and went straight to the national park without any further stops. Since we had been sitting in the car all day, we felt like doing some exercise. So, we hiked to the Natural Window (rock arch) and down into the gorge. The view was amazing as always, but those annoying little flies almost drove us crazy. Like everyone who has been to Australia knows, we put on our fly nets. We understand why and we are happy to explain it to others who don't. 😂 By the way, the roads in Kalbarri National Park are all paved now and can be easily driven by 2wd vehicles, contrary to what is stated in the guidebooks.

We spent the night in Kalbarri with a view of the ocean, so that we could attend the pelican feeding in the morning. Then, the next day, we went south, visiting several lookout points and doing walks. The flies were still with us, so we preferred resting in places with a lot of wind, as it keeps the flies away.

The next larger city was Geraldton, where we stayed for 2 nights to enjoy the city.
