In the morning, we shuffle sleepily to the public toilet in the village square and have a chuckle at ourselves. The night in the car park was alright though. We use the saved money to buy coffee and croissants.
It's a long day of driving, on the motorway with a view of the Auckland skyline, the last hour directly along the coast and it's beautiful.
We treat ourselves to a 'proper' campsite to fill up on water, shower, etc. It's worth it; the sea is very shallow and calm in this bay and we swim out endlessly far. In the evening, at low tide, we walk the same way back across the shell-packed ground towards the sunset. The dinner is a hit: improvised pizza calzone from the grill.
