DAY 4 Let the road trip begin
Today is the day, we leave the dazzling Las Vegas and make our way through the Nevada desert, starting our road trip.
We didn't need our car for the past 2 days and were excited to finally get back behind the wheel.
So, off to the parking garage and into the big wide world (in this case, the desert ☺), and of course, in style with a Jeep that we had rented at the Las Vegas airport.
This car will be our living room for the next 3 weeks, and that's why a spacious and off-road capable car is super important.
But before leaving Vegas on Interstate 15, we stopped at a typical American Walmart on the outskirts of Vegas to stock up on provisions for the upcoming trip. However, more candy ended up in the shopping cart than nutritious food that we could have used, but the selection of Oreo cookies alone is absolutely amazing!!!!
The first destination on our route was the Valley of Fire, a small manageable national park about an hour away from Vegas. We decided to do the Firewave trail and as soon as we passed the park entrance, we were already hiking through the desert, feeling like it was 50 degrees (actually it was only 30 degrees), in search of the famous wave-shaped rock. After sweating for about 40 minutes, we happily reached the famous wave.
A super impressive experience when you consider that such natural wonders have been formed over millions of years. So we happily took lots of pictures and started a conversation with 2 people from Salzburg who happened to have almost the same route ahead of them.
After a few hours, we continued on towards Hurricane, a small town near Zion National Park, which we have planned for the next 2 days.
We booked a small room in a private house on Airbnb the night before and were totally surprised when we finally arrived there. It was an over 100-year-old house that could have been on the show Charmed. We were warmly welcomed by Kathrin and lacked nothing. There was even a little note with homemade pumpkin cakes in our room. We also had a little roommate: Whiskers, the house cat ☺
In the afternoon, we decided to drive to Zion National Park and even managed to do a short hike after getting an overview with the tour bus. We have something very special planned for the next day, to give you a hint: it'll be heavenly ☺
PS: Muscle soreness is guaranteed ;)
