The holiday starts with a relaxed journey with the Airport Express FEX to BER. Everything runs smoothly here. Thanks to the pre-booked runway security check, it takes no more than 10 minutes and you are at the gates.
There was a lot going on at BER on Ascension Day. Unfortunately, our plane arrived 30 minutes late from Croatia, so we left later. The seat was on 4C, so it was better to be the last to board. That's the big advantage if you're only travelling with a backpack, because on the plane they're (once again) frantically looking for free seats for hand luggage that's far too big.
The flight takes off from BER in beautiful sunshine. The flight goes without any major turbulence. Next to me, two young people are apparently reenacting Father's Day with two cans of beer each. After consuming them, they immediately fell asleep.
Arrived in Catania. And what a welcome, it's raining. Luckily I was well prepared, so I unpacked my umbrella. Then came the short 40-minute walk to the hotel. With a stop at Lidl. Very new, very big, very nice, very busy.
And there is the first Panzerotto. (According to Wikipedia: Panzerotto is a filled, crescent-shaped boiled pastry from the southern Italian regions ).
We've reached the hotel. The room is perfectly OK and fortunately there are some storage spaces.
