After a good 7 hours drive for 450km, I finally arrived in Åbenrå just before 8pm. Endless traffic jams, but no border controls - despite the corona times. Right behind the border, you can get tested for free on the Danish side from 9am to 5pm. But on one hand it is already 7pm and on the other hand I don't feel like making another stop.
We arrive at the house one after the other and start unloading our groceries, bed linen, etc. Much to the surprise of the tenant of the house, who is also surprised. Because we didn't expect anyone to live there permanently. Since the Airbnb landlord apparently sublet her house months ago, this nice lady would also provide bed linen and towels, we are all a bit confused ;-).
On this first evening, we are not yet friends with our accommodation, as we have to come to terms with sharing this mini house with 1 bathroom and a kitchen with the subtenant and her visiting sister, with only 1 big pot in which we had to wait for a while to cook a few potatoes, so that we could then dive into boiled potatoes and the herb quark we brought with us. If the weather gets better than predicted, the lack of a living room will probably not be so important. Otherwise, we will sit comfortably in office chairs in the second floor in the rear bedroom or spend time in the landlord's activity area on rather uncomfortable dining table chairs.
We haven't really arrived yet and both of us are really annoyed from the journey. Tomorrow we will explore Åbenrå, which looks quite nice at first glance. Fingers crossed that we sleep well now.
