Day 4 The first hiking day

Pubblicato: 02.06.2017

So today it finally started, my first stage on the Dingle Way. The tour started in Camp on the north coast of the peninsula and led me to the south coast to Annascaul. The trail crossed the brow of the peninsula, with a mixture of grassy paths and trails. I also had to tackle some quite strenuous ascents and descents. The first 12 km took me through the green mountains of the peninsula. I didn't meet a single person, it was wonderful. But I have also never seen so many sheep before. Then I reached the south coast. There I had a great view of the 'Inch Strand'. It is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches ever. I can now confirm that. The trail then continued on more paths and a small road to Annascaul. With great weather and plenty of sunshine, I completed the approximately 20 km in 5 hours and 30 minutes. By the way, the Dingle Way is very well signposted, which matched my translated route description 100 percent. Once I arrived in Annascaul, I went straight to the South Pole Inn. This pub was opened by Tom Crean. Tom Crean, also known as the 'Irish Giant', was a seafarer who took part in several expeditions to Antarctica. Yes, Irish pubs offer not only good beer but also culture and education. Tomorrow I will continue on my second stage.
