After a splendid breakfast at the Marriott hotel my friend Susanne and I decided to pay a visit to the Reclining Buddha. By skyway and boat we reached Wat Pho which is near the Grand Palace. Wat Pho - the temple of the Reclining Buddha - is located right behind the magnificent temple of the Emerald Buddha and has a length of 46 meters and is covered in gold leaf. The Buddha's feet are 5 meters long and exquisitely decorated in mother-of-pearl illustrations of auspicious 'laksanas' (characteristics) of the Buddha. 108 is a significant number, referring to the 108 positive actions and symbols that helped lead Buddha to perfection.
After we visited this extraordinary Buddha statue, we wandered around in the beautiful garden.
From Wat Pho, we took a Tuk Tuk to the railway station to inquire about a train ticket for me to go to Chiang Mai the next day. Unfortunately, all tickets were sold out for the upcoming days, so I had no other choice but to buy a bus ticket for a bus leaving the next evening.
We had lunch close to the railway station before we took the subway back to Sukhumvit, and from there we went by Tuk Tuk to see the hostel where I was going to move later that day.
Then we walked back to the Marriott hotel and spent our last hours together at the pool, and we said our goodbyes because Susanne was flying back to Vienna this evening.
