Tag 22 - Wilsons Promontory National Park

Today is December 24th. We are driving from Phillip Island to Wilsons Promontory National Park. It is a beautiful national park that you should definitely visit. We are also at the southernmost point of the Australian mainland.

You can explore most of the park on foot and should take 2 to 3 days if you want to see everything.

We decide to first visit Squeaky Bay. The bay is not only called squeaky, the sand actually squeaks when you walk on it.😄 Besides the fun of walking on the sand, the bay is also a great sight with its bright sand, rocks, and the Tidal River that meanders through the soft sand like a puddle.

We won't go swimming here. The waves wash up blue bottles on the beach. They are poisonous and cause severe pain if you come into contact with their tentacles. We'd rather avoid that.

After that, we head to Mt Bishop. The path up the mountain leads through a dense green forest. In 2009, there was a big fire here that burned everything, but there is hardly anything left to see now. From the 319m high mountain, you have a wonderful view of the different bays and forests. The climb was really worth it!

We leave the park and drive to Toora to our campsite. (The campsite in the national park was just too expensive and crowded, but what a surprise: because of the holidays, we paid almost $70 in Toora instead of the usual $35)

In Toora, we celebrate Christmas Eve at a refreshing 18°C and enjoy our freshly grilled chicken skewers while the phone plays Christmas songs.🎅🎄
