It was a real experience to ride the Eurostar! We even had the opportunity to do it twice. We traveled from Amsterdam to London and then back from London to Paris.
But why am I so excited? First of all, the Eurotunnel itself impresses me. What an incredible idea to dig a tunnel under the sea! Each tube has an amazing length of 50.45 km, with 37 km of it lying under the Strait of Dover. This makes the Eurotunnel the longest underwater tunnel in the world.
What I also find very pleasant is traveling with the Eurostar. You speed through the countryside and receive nice service along the way. It was a bit like being on an airplane.
Even the check-in process is similar to the airport, with security checks and passport control. Since the United Kingdom has left the EU, you now need a passport again.
And because I found it so impressive how quickly you can travel from Amsterdam to London, here is the timeline of when my phone logged into a different country:
13:47 Departure of the Eurostar in Amsterdam
14:00 SMS 'Welcome to Denmark'
15:30 SMS 'Welcome to France'
16:16 (British time) SMS 'Welcome to the United Kingdom'. We were still in the Eurotunnel.
16:57 (British time) punctual arrival in London
