The last long flight is coming up.
We check out of our hostel in Bangkok at 12 o'clock. Since our flight doesn't leave the tarmac of the international airport of the Thai metropolis until 8:40 pm, we bridge the waiting time with lunch, reading and strolling around. We will have plenty of seats in the next few hours. We take off on time and land 6 ½ hours later in Abu Dhabi. After a short layover, we continue to Europe. We land in Belgrade at 5:20 am and just want a bed. But we still have the last leg ahead of us. When we arrive in Ljubljana at 9 am local time and have taken our backpacks from the carousel, we call a taxi and drive to our Airbnb accommodation. We are totally exhausted and therefore only go for a short walk, shopping and cooking on this day.
The next morning we make breakfast and leave the accommodation strengthened. When we take the first steps outside the front door, we can't stop smiling.
The sun is shining, the air is clear, cool and smells like spring. How we have missed this weather. We have experienced the extreme opposite in Australia, even more so in Indonesia and especially in Thailand, and now we are just happy.
We have decided, as often in cities, to explore Ljubljana with a Free Walking Tour. Our guide takes us along the Ljubljanica river, shows us some of the numerous bridges and the historically significant buildings of the old town.
Even though Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and with almost 300,000 inhabitants by no means a small city, (almost) all sights are close together and easily accessible on foot. After the tour, we stroll through the city for a while and sit by the river to enjoy the weather.
The next day we take a walk up to the castle, which offers a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings. Since we didn't make it to Tivoli Park the day before due to acute fatigue (hello jet lag), we make up for it today. After some errands in the city, we end the day with a cool Pivo (Slovenian for beer) at the Sax Pub.
Conclusion: Ljubljana is a must-see! Pretty nice here :)
