The sun wakes us up. We slept well and make muesli with fruit and yogurt. While we are having breakfast, we suddenly hear noises behind our camper. But instead of the neighbor who wants to ask or borrow something, three kangaroos jump past us. Crazy!
After a relaxed breakfast, we drive to Port Macquarie. After the kangaroos for breakfast, we also want to see koalas today. At 3 o'clock there is a guided tour at the Koala Hospital. We're in! In this hospital, animals are admitted, which, for example, were hit by cars, attacked by dogs or fell victim to forest fires. When the patients have recovered, they are released back into freedom.
We are lucky that there is a feeding session. Because koalas sleep 18-20 hours a day, it is rarely possible to see the animals awake.
After the tour, we drive to a nearby campsite and are amazed at the prices of Australian campsites. For 15 Australian dollars, we get a pitch with electricity, hot showers, and clean toilets. Pretty upscale ; ) We are not really used to these prices from New Zealand. There, for 15 dollars (PER PERSON), there were usually only an outhouse and a few mosquito bites.
