In the past week we have been cycling along the Adriatic coast. We were pleasantly surprised by the coast of Abruzzo. There are bike paths, partly freshly paved on an old railway embankment right by the sea. Here you can see many trabucchi, fishing houses on stilts in the sea.
The best bike paths in the large city of Pescara are completely car-free and stress-free!!
We randomly meet Swiss cyclist Thomas several times and spend a nice evening with him. Overall, we have met only a few but very friendly bicycle tourists on this trip.
The coasts of the Marche and Emilia-Romagna are heavily focused on beach tourism and mass tourism. Beach chairs and umbrellas line up one after another and it all looks pretty much the same everywhere. Due to the summer holidays, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to find a beautiful and quiet place to camp.
Therefore, we take the train again for a stretch until Rimini. Our last stop is Ravenna. We are fascinated by the many buildings from the 6th century with their fantastic mosaics.
From there, we conveniently travel back home by Flixbus.
Goodbye Italy!!
