Berlin (Germany Tour Part 7)

Pubblicato: 25.07.2018

Our arrival in Berlin in the evening was a bit difficult because there are unfortunately two streets named 'Kastanienallee' in Berlin and Google led us to the wrong address. Luckily, we noticed that before we arrived, but we still ended up driving half an hour longer than necessary...

This was especially annoying because of the heat. We quickly went to the hotel pool for some refreshment in the temperatures around 30°C.

Early next morning, we went to the Technikmuseum, where we waited in front of the entrance for it to open shortly before 9 am.

We started with a quiz tour, which guided us interactively through the exhibition on shipping and aviation with the museum's app.

After visiting the other parts of the exhibition in the main building with the locomotive shed, we went to Alexanderplatz.

There we had reserved a table for lunch at the Fernsehturm. It's a bit outrageous to pay just for the table reservation and elevator ride to the restaurant, but we were rewarded with a beautiful view over Berlin. The reservation was even more expensive than our meal...

After this break, we continued with the second part of the Technikmuseum, the loading street, which featured exhibitions on road and data traffic. In the second part, there was another quiz tour on the topic of 'The Network', which was designed for a younger audience but still quite entertaining (otherwise we wouldn't have thought of taking a selfie with the Linux penguin).

In the evening, we went to the 'Theater des Westens' to watch the musical 'Ghost'.

The next day, we visited the Berlin Zoo. The pandas are of course a special attraction there, as they cannot be found in any other German zoo. They also receive special care: Each of them has their own house, which is air-conditioned to a pleasant 16°-18°C. It made us quite envious with temperatures of 32°C...

The main activities of the pandas are sleeping and eating. They are given 50 kg of bamboo per day, even though each animal eats only about 30 kg - they are a bit picky and need a varied selection.

The pandas even had their own security service: Two security personnel stood in front and regulated the flow of spectators, which concentrated particularly around this enclosure.

In contrast, the capuchin monkeys were much more active and engaged in smaller fights. One troublemaker stood out and bit all the fellow monkeys in the enclosure alternately.
