30th November - Swan Valley and Fremantle

Pubblicato: 30.11.2018

Today's update will be a bit later. Possibly in the remaining days as well. The time difference is now only seven hours, which means that I will not always be ready in time for German breakfast.

Today we were first in the oldest wine-growing region in Australia, the Swan Valley. Valley means valley, which I actually couldn't see here, apart from the two rivers. This region is only about thirty minutes away from our hotel. The largest town is called Guildford. There we did one of the four circular walks and learned a bit about the history of this place. It begins around the year 1820. The town is located between two rivers, so to speak on an island. There are still quite a few old houses surrounded by a veranda in the typical style here. That looks pretty nice. The wine region is less spectacular, at least from what we have seen. Since it was still early in the morning, I can't say what the wine tastes like. I haven't drunk any.

By the way, regarding wine: I mentioned that Riesling is also grown here in Australia. I have now tried three different ones. That's enough! I will be very happy to stick with the Palatinate Rieslings and I'm already looking forward to the first glass in about three weeks.

From Swan Valley we then drove on to Fremantle. The photos show: a very beautiful and, by Australian standards, old city with equally old buildings (19th and early 20th centuries).

Last but not least, we were once again at our beach, where it was very windy today and therefore there were very high massive waves. Unfortunately, this is not visible in the photos.
