On 29.7. drive from Miami to Key West on Highway No. 1
Because of an accident and a roadblock, we actually experience a real traffic jam for the first time on our trip. It costs us about 1 hour.
It takes what feels like an eternity to leave the last suburbs of Miami - many traffic lights that are not synchronized force us to constantly stop - that’s annoying after a while.
Once we have left the last towns behind us, we drive endlessly on a single lane straight ahead - the mangrove forests of the Everglades stretch out on the left and right on the legendary Highway No. 1.
At some point, we cross the first bridge to the first island of the Keys - to Key Largo.
By the many boats that line the road on the left and right, one can tell what the theme is here: Fishing!
Now we drive from bridge to bridge and island to island - finally, our navigation system tells us that we have reached our destination.
But since we didn't notice any motels, we turn around and lose concentration - and there we actually see the sign to our motel:

After checking in, we continue towards Key West. We still drive for another good 2 hours.
There we first look for the southernmost point of the USA.
The southernmost point of the USA on Key West, from here it's only 90 miles to Cuba.
Then we look at the beautiful houses from the penultimate century.
