The last major stop on our world trip takes us to the megacity of Tokyo - and we let ourselves be surprised. We stayed at the Hilton Tokyo Bay and traveled to the city districts by train. The first days were cloudy with rain turning to sleet at around 5 degrees, and I caught a nasty cold. Then, finally, the sun came out.
We were fascinated by the Japanese culture - temples, shrines, Japanese cuisine, the polite and friendly mentality, the size and density of the city, the order and cleanliness down to the last corner, the S and U-Bahn system, and the endless shopping possibilities.
Our recommendations for Tokyo
- Marunouchi: Tokyo Station, then to Kitte - the shopping mall of the Japan Post with unique stores for crafts and Japanese aesthetics - and then take a walk over the Nijubashi Bridge to the Imperial Palace.
