Just 40 kilometers away, but still 2 1/2 hours by bus, is the nearest well-known national park in Costa Rica - the Manuel Antonio National Park.
This one reminded us more of a zoo, as the paths are mostly paved and you rarely walk alone. Furthermore, the surrounding town is very touristy, so we spent only one afternoon in the impressive national park and packed up our tents in the evening to continue our journey spontaneously.
There was still a lot to see here: various poisonous snakes, countless species of birds, three of the four monkey species living in Costa Rica (capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, and squirrel monkeys), spiders, agoutis, raccoons, and much more :-)
